Test #2 Information and other FAQs

Test #2 has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 23.

This is due to my illness preventing me from attending class on March 2nd and the subsequent postponing of the test scheduled for March 7th.

The test will be considered optional. The test will cover chapters 6 and 7 of the Krugman and Wells text, as well as the class discussions of the material. You will get review information in class on Tuesday, March 21.

FAQ

Q: So the test is optional. What happens if I don't take it?

A: Since the test is worth 15 percentage points, the points will be redistributed over the other three tests, one you have already taken, and the others scheduled April 13 and the final. So there will be more points riding on fewer tests.

Q: Sounds great, what's the catch?

A: Well, no catch. But I'll add this: The material doesn't get any easier. People tend to do worse toward the end of this course. The material covered on this rescheduled test is very narrowly focused on measurement of the things we've deemed "problematic" in the economy. Henceforth we will discuss these things more theoretically and abstractly. Your efforts to understand this material ought to be well rewarded with deeper understanding. If you skip this test your understanding of the material will be shallow.

Q: If you think it's so important, why make it optional?

A: Because when it comes to tests I don't like to change dates. I like it when I give you the dates and you write them in your calendars and respect those test dates and not schedule any conflicts. Since this is a change to the schedule, there may be many conflicts. Rather then rescheduling a legion of make ups, I'll make it optional.

Q: Can I make up this rescheduled test if there is a conflict?

A: No.

Q: If I do bad on the test rescheduled test can I drop it?

A: No.

Q: If I got a bad midterm grade should I drop the course?

A: Most people who got bad midterm grades failed to turn in assignments. You may think 5 points isn't much but when determining mid term grades, you had 15 non-test points and 15-test points. It ought to be trivial math to figure out that if you did not turn in any of the assignments and you got a lousy grade on the first test that your motivation is not targeted toward this class. Examine your motivations and make your decisions.

It is also becoming obvious that many people take advantage of the no attendance policy. To you abusers, well, the best cliche to you is "you reap what you sew."

A: Wednesday, March 29. You will get your test #2 returned the day before.
